A Romanian court on Tuesday rejected a complaint filed by Andrew Tate against his 30-day detention. Under Romanian law, if the investigation requires more time, prosecutors can apply for permission to extend detention up to 180 days.

Accusations of criminal activity by the Tate brothers

According to prosecutors, the Tate brothers won over their victims by seducing them and falsely promising a romantic relationship. The victims were then taken to a property on the outskirts of Bucharest. According to the investigators, there, due to physical violence and intimidation, they were sexually abused by forcing them to create pornographic content for websites, which generated large financial profits. Investigators said they had located six women who had been sexually abused by the suspects. Prosecutors also said that one of the brothers raped one of the victims in March 2022. It was then that the investigation into the Tate brothers began.

“One cannot ignore the possibility that the suspects will evade investigation, leave Romania and settle in countries that do not allow extradition due to their financial capacity and public comments on the subject,” the court judge stated in the written record approving the arrest.

Prosecutors seized 15 luxury cars and more than 10 properties belonging to suspects in Bucharest, Prahova and Brasov counties, Ramona Bolla, a spokeswoman for Romania’s organized crime unit (DIICOT), told Reuters. The seizure of these items was to prevent the sale or concealment of the property.
