Android 12 has been released. So far, the new system is available only on Google devices from the Pixel family. Soon, the update is also expected to reach other users. In addition to its new, friendly look, Google promises easier and faster smartphone use, and it also focuses on privacy settings.
Google officially announced the release of Android 12 on October 4. The system calls it “the most ambitious completed project so far”. Android 12 is available as part of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). This means that the update is currently available on Google devices from the Pixel family and within a few weeks it will be available to all users of this brand.
The update for other manufacturers such as Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo and Vivo is expected to be available by the end of 2021. It cannot be turned on automatically.
Before the official release of Android 12, the Beta version of the system was tested by over 220,000 people. Users reported 50,000 bugs, which helped improve the latest version. The most important changes are presented below.
Android 12 – a new look
Android version 12 offers a new, more personalized interface called “Material You”. Google modernized the widgets with rounded corners and brighter and more uniform colors. Notifications and lock screen have been refreshed. Thanks to the new features, screen scrolling should be more efficient than before.
All application icons on the smartphone have been given a new look, called “Splash screens”. Application owners will be able to choose the color of the icon, make it animated or blurry.
Android 12 – faster system
Google promises that the system will run more smoothly with the new update. Processor utilization by process services will drop by 22 percent. Applications are supposed to launch faster. Android 12 is also supposed to limit the operation of the application in the background. They are to update automatically, you will not need your consent.
The use of the smartphone is also to facilitate the one-handed mode, which can be turned on and off on request. The solution is similar to the one already functioning in iOS.
Greater control over privacy
Android 12 introduces clearer privacy rules. A board will appear in the settings where we will find information about which application uses the microphone, camera or GPS. Users will have a greater impact on sharing their location with apps. It will be possible, for example, to enter the area we are in, and not specific coordinates.
When an application uses the camera or location, an icon will pop up on the screen. Access can be turned off immediately.
