The videoconference of US President Joe Biden with President Andrzej Duda and the leaders of Germany, France, Italy, UK, EU and NATO ended after 80 minutes of talks, the White House reported on Monday. President Andrzej Duda announced that he would convene the National Security Council on Friday, during which he would like to share his knowledge and picture of the situation with the most important participants of the Polish political scene.

– I cannot say in detail what the subject of the meeting was, because it was held in camera. We discussed the situation around Ukraine, but also generally on the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance related to Russian activities, said President Andrzej Duda. – It is safe to talk about the unity of the North Atlantic Alliance as far as the most important partners are concerned – he added.

– In the coming days I will want to share my knowledge and the picture of the situation with the most important participants of the Polish political scene. I will summon the National Security Council – announced Andrzej Duda. The meeting – as the president explained – is to take place on Friday. – Then we will also consult with our allies. I am thinking of the Baltic States here. These consultations should end on Thursday, he said.

President Andrzej Duda admitted that no one can predict what the situation will be in the future. – I would like to emphasize one thing: there is no indication that Poland is in any danger at this moment – he stressed.

– The movements of the Russian troops and the actions on the political and media scene are being watched and everyone can see it, but all this is happening on the other side so far and there is no visible danger for us – he added.

International consultations on the situation in Ukraine

As reported by the Biden administration, the virtual meeting started at 21:05 and ended at 22:25 (Polish time). White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said before the meeting that the conference was part of setting plans in case Russia resumes aggression and “discussing what we are seeing and how we can help and strengthen the defenses” of the allies.

The meeting was attended by – apart from President Biden – President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda, President of France Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, Prime Minister of Italy Mario Draghi, Prime Minister of Great Britain Boris Johnson, as well as President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Council Charles Michel and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

“Great meeting with POTUS on European security (…). We agree that any further aggression by Russia against Ukraine will be severely costly,” Stoltenberg wrote on Twitter.
