On Tuesday, President Andrzej Duda began his visit to New York, where the UN General Assembly is held. As part of bilateral meetings, he has already talked to, among others, the President of Brazil, Jairem Bolsonaro, and the President of Mongolia. He also talks about the “two highlights” of his visit agenda.
President Andrzej Duda’s speech in the general debate is scheduled for 6.15 pm local time, i.e. 15 minutes after midnight Polish time.
Duda: Brazil’s president in Poland in March or early April
Earlier, however, the Polish president talked with the Brazilian president Jairem Bolsonaro and the president of Mongolia during bilateral meetings.
During the press brieffing, Andrzej Duda expressed his hope that Bolsonaro would come to Poland in March or early April.
– Brazil is Poland’s economic partner, but most of all the largest South American country with great potential – he stressed. He stressed that “it would be good” to develop our relations with Brazil, primarily economic. – It would certainly be beneficial for our economy and for our entrepreneurs – added the president. – I announce in advance that the visit of the president is more than likely – he said.
Andrzej Duda on “the two most important points” of his visit
He also reported that he had met the President of Mongolia Uchnaagijn Chürelsüch. – I received an invitation from the president to Mongolia – he said, emphasizing that last year we had 80 years of diplomatic relations between Poland and Mongolia. As Duda pointed out, he hopes to increase the exchange of young people with Mogolia; that even more Mongolian students will be in Poland. – We hope for the development of economic relations, because Mongolia is also a country with great potential and I hope it will be even more open to our entrepreneurs – he added.
Another of the talks the president held on Tuesday was a meeting with Jean-Pierre Lacroix, UN Deputy Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations. – We talked about our mission in Lebanon. The undersecretary praised the way our soldiers carry out this mission. We talked about the potential possibilities of support for various missions of the United Nations, peacekeeping missions – said Duda.
The president announced that he would soon hold a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
– We will talk about our developing cooperation – he added.
The president said that “the two highlights” of his New York visit were his speech at the UN General Assembly session, and “the second meeting organized by the Atlantic Council in connection with the Three Seas Initiative.”
Questions about cooperation with the Joe Biden administration
The president was asked about his cooperation with the administration of US President Joe Biden. He mentioned mutual invitations to international summits, including the Climate Summit and the Three Seas Summit, in which they both participated. He confirmed that “it is not as close cooperation” as with the administration of former President Donald Trump.
– At the moment, the administration of President Joe Biden has many problems, such as the problem of Afghanistan, which it has to deal with, and these are probably much more urgent needs than cooperation in relations with Poland, where nothing bad is happening – said Duda.
The president assured that the permanent elements of Polish-American cooperation developed during the presidency of Donald Trump also function today.
