Vladimir Putin, as well as his generals, are perfectly aware that the first to use nuclear weapons is cursed – said President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Marcin Wrona, a correspondent of “Fakty” TVN in the USA. He commented on Putin's renewed threats. Duda also announced that on Wednesday evening, Polish time, he will meet with US President Joe Biden.
President Andrzej Dudawho is in the United States, gave an interview to the correspondent of “Fakty” TVN on Wednesday USA Marcin Wrona.
He was asked about the words, among other things. Vladimir Putinwho on Wednesday evening, at the beginning of the meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, again threatened to use nuclear weapons if there was a massive attack on the Russian side.
– If we look at it coolly and without panic, we have to say it clearly: it repeats what has been written in the Russian military doctrine for years, that Russia reserves the right to use all means, including nuclear means at its disposal, in the event of a threat to Russia – Duda replied. He assessed that “this is nothing new”.
– Vladimir Putin, however, is also perfectly aware, as are his generals, that the first to use nuclear weapons is cursed (…). They will never get rid of this responsibility if they use nuclear weapons. Not even to the slightest extent. Never. The world will never forgive them for that – he added.
Duda on possible attacks on Ukrainian nuclear power plants
On Wednesday at the General Assembly UN president Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky he said that Russia plans attacks on Ukrainian nuclear power plants. Duda commented on these words, saying that “it is quite possible”. – Let me remind you that attacks on nuclear power plants have already taken place. These are the facts of this war – he added.
– There was once such a situation, back in 2022, a few weeks after the war began, Volodymyr Zelensky called me in the middle of the night that the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant was under attack (…). At that time, he actually asked me to intervene, and I called Krzysztof Szczerskiour ambassador to the UN, to intervene with the Secretary General, I spoke with the International Atomic Energy Agency, which oversees nuclear energy worldwide. At that time we intervened, indeed this attack took place, no catastrophe occurred, but the power plant is under Russian occupation – Duda said.
– If Russia attacked these power plants with missiles, the threat would indeed be great, I think. I hope that will not happen. However, there is no doubt that in the event of such serious information or, God forbid, the launch of such an attack, the International Atomic Energy Agency must intervene immediately – he said.
Duda also announced that he will meet with the US president on Wednesday, Polish time. Joe Biden.
Putin scares again
Russian leader Vladimir Putin again threatened the West with the use of nuclear weapons on Wednesday as he spoke about proposed changes to Russia's nuclear doctrine during a meeting of the Russian Security Council.
“It is proposed that aggression against Russia by any non-nuclear-weapon state, but with the participation or support of a nuclear state, be regarded as their joint attack on the Russian Federation,” Putin said.
According to him, the Kremlin could also consider using nuclear weapons if it detects the start of a mass launch of missiles, an attack by aircraft or drones on Russian territory. – Moscow also reserves the right to use nuclear weapons if Russia or Belarus would become the subject of aggression, including conventional weapons, he added.
Putin assessed that the proposals for changes to the nuclear doctrine “have been carefully calibrated and are proportionate to the contemporary military threats that Russia faces”. – We see that the current military and political situation is evolving very dynamically and we must take this into account. This applies in particular to the emergence of new sources of threats and military risks for Russia and its allies – he said.
