As announced on Friday by the Government Information Center, the German chancellor will be visiting Warsaw on Saturday, September 11. “The head of the German government will meet Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. This is the last official visit to Poland by Chancellor Angela Merkel. The head of the German government will resign after 16 years,” emphasized the CIR.
As we read, the topics that will be discussed during Merkel’s talks with Morawiecki will include, inter alia, Polish-German relations, but also economic issues and the current situation in Europe and in the world.
Farewell to politics
Angela Merkel, 66, from the CDU party – for many younger Germans the only head of government they know – will no longer run in the Bundestag elections in September. He resigns after four terms of office and 16 years of rule. As she announced several times, she will no longer exercise any political function – neither in her country nor in international institutions. Merkel still enjoys the greatest trust of citizens – trusted by over 60 percent of Germans. “Many citizens trust her because she does not seem threatening, because she leaves people alone and does not absorb their imaginations. She leads without showing the insignia and tools of power” – wrote the daily “Welt”.
Armin Laschet, the prime minister of the most densely populated state of Germany, North Rhine-Westphalia, was the candidate of the CDU / CSU coalition associated with Merkel for the position of chancellor.
