After the nomination was announced – on January 23 this year, it was said and wrote mainly about 13 nominations for “Emilia Perez” by Jacques Audiard, divorcing this French film victory in the main categories. Because it is worth recalling that the image of the audiaard set a record when it comes to the number of nominations for a non -English film. Not only that, nominated for the main and title role of Karl Sofia Gascón, went down in history as the first transgender actress appreciated by the Academy and immediately became a favorite. Academics love to prove in recent years that they care about “breaking barriers”.

Therefore, it was forecasted that “Emilia Perez” would be another “international” title after “Parasite”, which has real chances for statuettes both in the main category and in the most interesting us: “international film”.

But over the past two weeks, a scandal has started around Gascon, which he effectively deprived her of the chance of winning, and he also harmed the film. All thanks to the entries of the actress from years ago – some explicit racist, others mocking religious groups, and finally making fun of dorms, who according to her words turned the Oscar gala “into an Afro -Korean festival”. As a representative of the minority, ironically, Gascon herself turned out to be a person despising any difference. Things have gone so far that Netflix, having the right to “Emilia Perez” in USAcut off from the actress and excluded her from promotional meetings overseas. The film director and nominated for the role of Zoe Saldan (having great chances for the statuette) also cut off from her. All this happened in the middle of voting in the nominees, which will end on February 18.

The topic did not leave the headlamps of the industry press in Hollywood for the last week, and “Anor” Baker has just become one of the beneficiaries of the whole scandal. If at the beginning Gascon was considered the most dangerous favorite of Demi Moore, then the star of “substance” may already forget about her. On Internet forums we will find calls to resign from applying for the “disgrace” Gascon statuette.

It is not known if the scandal will also hurt the “International Film” category, in which “Emilia Perez” beat the competition on her head, but in the latest typical typors of bookmakers we can more and more often see the Brazilian picture of the Brazilian picture “I'm still here”. So it remains to wait until March 2, to the Oscar gala.

From the beginning, Baker fought the stereotype of sexual workers as a “fallen environment”, tries to remove the odium of immoral people, and above all he speaks loudly about the need to decriminalize them. After the premiere of “Anory” in Cannes, he even devoted a significant part of his press conference to this issue, where he explained that “sexual work is also work.” In “Anor” he does everything to object to the title heroine. In every interview, he also emphasizes that he defines her much more than sexual services. “It is much more important what man turns out to others” – he emphasizes. It is difficult to deny sensitivity and a good heart.

The “Anory” action takes place in New York Brighton Beach in Brooklyn, in a district inhabited mainly by immigrants from the former Soviet Union. This is where he lives and works in a club with striptesis as an erotic dancer of Anor – Ania. This is why the film begins with the scenes of sensually swaying female bodies of topless dancers. Nor problems with pleasing to customers in private rooms, where it gives them much more than dance. When one night a young Russian goes to the club, because of her language skills (her grandmother was a Russian), the boss is sending her.

Nor is the Russian – a young Ivan, who turns out to be the son of oligarch. She offers her – as Richard Gere Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman” – a week “exclusive” for a round 15,000 dollars. He will not spend him first in the luxurious, though kitschy villa Ivan, and then in expensive hotels, experiencing the luxury she did not dream about. When Ivan offers her a quick wedding in Las Vegas, he will say “yes”.

Thanks to the naturalness and incredible energy of Mikey Madison (also nominated for an Oscar), we want to believe in a happy fate that did not win at the lottery. The whole story, moreover, follows her naive faith. It is no accident that the favorite fairy tale or “Cinderella”, and Ivan resembles the prince. Until the family finds out about everything and with the help of the faithful gorillas, he decides to free his son from his wife. Then Prince Da Dyla. He has no idea what element is or. Real ride without a handle begins, and the screen is mastering absurdity and slapstick. The narrative flows like water in the river, and Baker masterfully copes with changes in the style of stories and even the genre.

The despised or Ivan's parents turns out to be simpletons who are not arranging to her heels. Without moralizing and without a shadow of tenderness, Baker does everything to understand that “Anora” is a film about a girl who will not be able to take away dignity and about nourse who never had her. The final we do not expect is already very bitter. Like Baker.

“Anora” is undoubtedly a piece by masterfully tailored cinema. Personally, however, I have a big problem with Baker's movie. This year, in the “Dramatic Serial” category, “Szogun” won, while among the comedy “Hacks”, available on the Max platform, dominated again. The awards were also received for their directing Frederick Eo Toye (Szogun) and Lucia Aniello (Hacks).

For the directorial debut, the Oscar nominated painting “Nickel Boys” Ross Ross was awarded, and “Super/Man: Christopher Reeve” was considered the best document. Among the animated films as the best guild of producers, she recognized “Dziki Robot”, whose Oscar chances immediately soared to the top.
