Another dead fish was caught from Dzierżno Duże. Silesian Voivode extends bans

Dead fish are still being fished out of Dzierżno Duży and section IV of the Gliwice Canal. RMF FM reports that on Tuesday (August 20), more than a ton of dead fish were caught from the reservoir and surrounding waters. The station also notes that this number was five times lower than on Monday (August 19). Since the beginning of the month, more than 115 tons of dead fish have been caught.

The Silesian Voivodeship Office also draws attention to the gradually decreasing number of dead fish caught Katowice. He also notes that most of these are cases of animals that have been dead for three or four days and are only now surfacing. Despite this, he is not ending the operation and is extending the bans on using water. – We hope that the process of killing has ended, but I am far from ending the operation, primarily because of weather forecastwhich are not optimistic. Temperature changes and possible precipitation may affect the conditions for the development of the golden algae – said Silesian Voivode Marek Wójcik.

On Monday (19 August), the ban on using the waters of the Dzierżno Duże reservoir and section IV of the Gliwice Canal was extended until 26 August. A day later, it was also announced that the ban on using the Kłodnica River from the small hydroelectric power plant in Pławniowice to border voivodeships. Experiments are underway in this section to prevent water containing the golden algae from entering the Odra River.

Paulina Pierzchała, spokesperson for PGW Wody Polishshe gave the local “Gazeta Wrocławska”that the condition of the Odra is being monitored on an ongoing basis and at the moment no threat has been observed. – No prymnesin, a toxin secreted by golden algae, which could result in fish deaths, has been detected in the river – she told the daily.
