For now, it holds the second place in the world, behind the geothermal well in Otaniemi, Finland, where 6,400 meters was reached.

– The cable was torn and the process of pulling out all the cable elements, i.e. a set of over 600 pipes together with the drill, lasted for several days. The latest failure is the third downtime in recent times. In August works stopped after drilling less than 50 meters. The cause was a failure of the main engine of the drilling rig. In April, however, work was suspended because at a depth of 5,900 m very hard rock formations were encountered. In addition, the walls of the borehole began to crumble. The whole was stabilized with a so-called cement plug, which was later drilled through. Work on the borehole began in April 2023 and for the next year progressed at a rate of about 40-50 meters per day.
