The perpetrators of setting fire to the Israeli flag and knocking over the Hanukkah candlestick in the center of Wrocław are already in the hands of the police. The five teenagers will be dealt with in a family court, but this is not the only anti-Semitic scandal in recent days. The louder one concerns Grzegorz Braun, who used a fire extinguisher to extinguish a candle lit on the occasion of Hanukkah in the parliamentary corridor.

They enjoyed impunity for only one day. The perpetrators of setting fire to the Israeli flag and knocking over the Hanukkah candlestick in the center of Wrocław are already in the hands of the police. It is difficult to talk about punishment for these acts – rather about educational activities. Because all five of those detained are still children. They are only 15-16 years old. – These teenagers have certain role models. The question is – are these the right patterns? The question is about the behavior of parents, families, the entire community – says Jacek Sutryk, mayor of Wrocław. The perpetrators will answer all questions before the family court.

Associations with a similar situation a few days earlier in the Sejm are not accidental. – This hateful madness is spreading more and more widely. Mr. Braun, MP, unfortunately finds his followers – emphasizes Krzysztof Śmiszek, deputy minister of justice from the New Left. Confederation MP Grzegorz Braun, who used a fire extinguisher to extinguish a Hanukkah candle lit in the Sejm on the occasion of the Jewish holiday, is trying to find a new explanation for his attack when faced with accusations of insulting religious feelings. According to the MP, he was motivated by concern for the security of the Sejm, and in the clash with a Polish woman, a follower of Judaism, who defended the candlestick and whom he also attacked with a fire extinguisher, Braun reverses the roles of the attacker and the victim. – This is a crime prosecuted ex officio – notes Braun.

More imitators?

Grzegorz Braun threatens Magdalena Gudzińska-Adamczyk, although the woman claims that after the clash with the MP and his fire extinguisher, she has problems with speaking and only refutes the allegations of an alleged attack on the MP by text messages. Braun, however, faces an investigation and loss of immunity for attacking a woman and insulting religious teachers. Words of condemnation are coming from all sides of the political scene. MP Braun was financially punished, excluded from the Sejm session and suspended from the Confederation club. – For Mr. Braun, the highest punishment would be the penalty of forgetfulness and omission. And I think that this punishment should be applied to him – says Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz from PSL, Trzecia Droga.

For now, the MP is finding followers. His party colleague and former candidate for senator of the Confederation was detained by the police because he threatened on the Internet to blow up the Sejm during the re-lighting of Hanukkah candles and attacked the followers of Judaism. – The expert issued an opinion that clearly indicates that this entry was made from his phone. Nevertheless, the security of this phone was not breached – emphasizes Szymon Banna from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw. The Confederation politician faces up to eight years in prison.
