US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is visiting Kiev. He met, among others, with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. He also announced aid to Ukraine worth over a billion dollars.

According to Reuters, $665 million of this amount is military and civilian support in the field of security. – We will continue to stand by Ukraine – Blinken stated during a press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba.

The Secretary of State announced that US aid to Ukraine will include additional air defense equipment, missiles for HIMARS systems, ammunition, and communication systems. Blinken noted that the new aid for Kiev will include, among others: equipment needed for demining the territory. He concluded that since the beginning of the Russian attack, the US has provided Ukraine with military aid worth over $43 billion.

Earlier in the day, the U.S. administration announced a $175 million military aid package for Ukraine – part of the aid Blinken was talking about. The package included, among others: for the first time, depleted uranium ammunition for Abrams tanks.

Blinken met in Kiev with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Foreign Minister Kuleba. He also informed that he had talked with the president about long-term security arrangements.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, in turn, said that he discussed with Blinken the transfer of long-range ATACMS missiles to Kiev. – This option remains open. I hope that discussions in the US administration will lead to a positive decision, he emphasized, quoted by RBK-Ukraina.

In the evening, photos of Kuleba and Blinken appeared on social media and went to a McDonald’s in Kiev together.

Blinken: The US sees progress in the Ukrainian counteroffensive

Blinken also spoke before talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, which opened the official part of the US Secretary of State’s two-day visit to Kiev, which began on Wednesday.

– We see good progress in the counteroffensive. This is very difficult. We want to see that Ukraine has everything it needs to succeed in its counterstrike, and (hear) what it needs in the long run to see that there is a strong deterrent (Russia), strong defense capabilities – explained the head of American diplomacy.

Blinken emphasized that United States are determined to continue working together with partners to strengthen the Ukrainian economy and democracy, “so that Ukraine will not only persevere, but also develop in the future.”

Antony Blinken arrived in Kiev on Wednesday morning by train from Poland. His visit to Ukraine will last until Thursday.

Blinken’s third visit

The US Secretary of State visits Ukraine for the third time since the beginning of the Russian invasion. He had previously visited her in April 2022just after the liberation of the Kiev Oblast from Russian occupation, and then in September 2022. Due to the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine, details of visits by important foreign politicians are kept secret until the last moment.

A few hours before the US Secretary of State arrived in Kiev, Russia launched another massive attack on Ukraine, launching drones and missiles towards Kiev and the Odessa Oblast. Cruise missiles and one ballistic missile were shot down over Kiev, the capital’s authorities reported.
