PiS presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki was to occupy a luxurious apartment in a museum hotel complex five kilometers from his house for almost 200 days. According to PiS MP Kazimierz Smoliński, his stay could have been caused by difficult communication around the city. – In Gdańsk, five kilometers is just like in Warsaw, there is a lot of traffic – he said in “Kropka nad i”. – I would never have thought of renting a hotel five kilometers from my place of residence and having the Sejm pay for the hotel – said Tomasz Trela (New Left).
“Gazeta Wyborcza” wrote on Monday that Karol Nawrocki, PiS candidate for president, as director of the Museum of the Second World War for he used the luxurious Deluxe apartment in the museum hotel complex for over half a year.
According to the newspaper, Nawrocki never paid for his stay, and his house is located about five kilometers from this place. The stay – even with the highest employee subsidies – would require paying several dozen thousand zlotys for this period.

Apartment five kilometers from the house. “There is a lot of traffic after all”
MPs Kazimierz Smoliński (PiS) – vice-chairman of the parliamentary regulations committee – and Tomasz Trela (New Left) – member of the Pegasus committee – were guests of Monika Olejnik in “Kropka nad i”, where they commented on “GW” reports.
PiS MP he argued that “Karol Nawrocki has nothing to do with Law and Justice.” – He is not a member of Law and Justice. He is supported by us, but he is not an apparatchik of our party, he said.
The PiS MP stated that Nawrocki “perhaps used this apartment not to go home” after business meetings. – Communication between home and work was difficult during the pandemic, so he said he could stay there to be home faster – said Smoliński.
To the comment that Nawrocki lived five kilometers from the apartment, the PiS MP replied: – In Gdańsk, five kilometers is like in Warsaw, there is a lot of traffic.
Trela: this is not a shelter
Tomasz Trela reacted to this comment. – You really don't believe in what you're saying. Mr. Karol Nawrocki – like a Law and Justice apparatchik – took advantage of everything he could, he did. I live in Łódź. There are also hotels in Łódź, I was also sick with Covid. I would never have thought of renting a hotel five kilometers from my place of residence and having the Sejm pay for the hotel, said the MP from the New Left.
Trela: this is not a shelterTVN24
– A hotel in an institution managed by a given person is not a lodging facility for that person. (…) This hotel is there to welcome a guest and, secondly, to make money for themselves. Five kilometers from his place of residence, Mr. Nawrocki rented an apartment. This is unethical, immoral and in my opinion it should be checked whether he has not abused his position when it comes to financial management. The hotel could have earned PLN 150,000, but it earned nothing because Mr. Nawrocki came up with the idea that he would not pay, said Trela.
197 days in the apartment
The current management of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk wrote on January 10, 2025 in response to questions from “Gazeta Wyborcza”: “Director Karol Nawrocki used the DELUX apartment (116 m2) and in three cases a double room. The documentation held by the Museum does not indicate its purpose or nature of the stay. Director Karol Nawrocki did not pay for the stay at the hotel.

According to the newspaper's findings, “in total, in 2018-2020, Nawrocki booked 19 stays, and in 2020-2021 – as many as 182.” “A total of 201 days, including 197 in the apartment,” it was summarized.
The article shows that Nawrocki did not pay “a penny” for his hotel stay when he was director. “With the maximum discount (80%), the 'employee' price for all reservations would amount to approximately PLN 25,600, and with a 40% discount – PLN 51,200. Commercially – over PLN 120,000” – calculated. “GW” added that Nawrocki's house is located about five kilometers from the Museum.
