On Monday, the European Commission called on the American company Apple to adapt the operation of the iPadOS tablet operating system to EU regulations. Otherwise, the European Commission threatens to impose a fine on the company.
European Commission demands, among other things, that Apple allow users to set any default web browser, allow alternative app stores to operate, and allow additional devices such as headphones or so-called smart pens, for efficient access to iPadOS features.
The introduction of such solutions is assumed in the EU Digital Markets Act.

Large fines possible
The American giant promised to make changes to iPadOS by the end of the year. If this does not happen, the Commission will be able to impose a fine on the company of up to 10%. its global turnover.
In case of repeated violations the fine may increase to 20%.. Additionally, the EC may order the company to sell part of its business or introduce other structural changes if the violations are of a systemic nature.
Digital Markets Act
The Digital Markets Act, in force from May 2023 aims to ensure greater competition in European digital marketsamong others by preventing corporations from abusing their market position and enabling new entities to enter the market.
The document also establishes a list of obligations to be fulfilled by the largest technology companies.
