Snow has arrived in the western regions of Bolivia. Rainfall was particularly pleasing to farmers and sellers. The last few months have been very dry, which has increased the prices of vegetables.
It is winter in Bolivia, which is located in the southern hemisphere. Despite this, snowfall is not very frequent there. Therefore, when it started to rain on Sunday, many people in the country were very surprised.
The country’s National Hydrological and Meteorological Service (SENAHMI) announced that temperatures would drop significantly in the western regions of the country. Finally, at the warmest moment of the day, it reached from 4 to 0 degrees Celsius.
Good for dry land
For Bolivians, snowfall is a good omen. It can be especially useful for farmers who will grow potatoes in the coming months. Recent seasons have been really dry, which has made vegetables much more expensive. The price increase hit the poorest people in the country the hardest.
– The ground was dry, and with this snowfall it will be irrigated for planting potatoes. It was very dry. It’s good that it’s snowing, said one of the traders, Marcela Plata.
