Ash Barty defeats Danielle Collins for Australian Open girls’s title

Ashleigh Barty of Australia has gained the ladies’s title on the Australian Open in Melbourne, defeating Danielle Collins of the US in two units – 6-3, 7-6 — with the second set determined in a tiebreaker.

The match ended about 5 a.m. Saturday, japanese U.S. time.

After the match ended, Australian tennis legend Evonne Goolagong Cawley appeared to take part within the trophy presentation ceremony.

It was the third main win for Barty and ended a 44-year drought for Australians at their house match. Chris O’Neil was the final Australian to win the title, in 1978, and Wendy Turnbull was the final Australian to seem within the remaining, in 1980, in response to The Related Press.

The win by the Australian participant on Australian soil set off a direct and loud celebration there.

After Barty gained the primary set, Collins stormed again to a 5-1 lead within the second set, solely to see Barty catch up and defeat her within the tiebreaker for the championship.
