The rule is simple – the center of the screen should be at the eye level of the seated viewer. Only the same principle is different will check in the living room and differently in the bedroom.
Living room
In the living room we watch TV mainly from the sofa. The center of the screen should be exactly at the level of our eyes when we sit comfortably on the sofa. For a typical sofa, this usually means mounting it at a height of about 110-120 cm above the floor – then most people will have the screen perfectly in their line of sight, without having to raise their heads or look down.
The bedroom has its own rules
This is where things get more complicated if we watch in a lying position. The TV must be placed higher – the center of the screen is best placed at a height of 130-140 cm. An adjustable handle will also be very useful in the bedroom – the ability to tilt the screen down will significantly improve comfort.
Size also matters
The larger the TV, the lower its center should be. Why so? because with a 65-inch screen, even if the center is at the perfect height, the top edge can be uncomfortably high. Therefore, for larger screens, it is worth lowering them by 5-10 cm than the standard recommendations. In the case of the 75th inches and more you have to go even lower – even 95-100 cm from the floor.
Not only the height of the TV, but also the distance from the sofa is important. It greatly affects the comfort of our viewing, but also the health of our eyes. To understand at what distance you should watch TVs of specific sizes and resolutions, I recommend reading this article.
