The plane of the Polish airline Enter Air, flying from the Egyptian town of Marsa Alam to Katowice, made an emergency landing in Athens on Sunday due to a fault. The travelers are to return to Poland by another plane.
We received the first report of an emergency landing of a plane on… Contact 24. As an Internet user informed us, the plane was flying from the town Mars Alam in Egypt to Katowice, but unexpectedly landed in Athens.
“We are still sitting on the plane. We are waiting for transfer to the terminal. Apparently a plane from Warsaw is coming to pick us up,” one of the passengers of flight ENT4236 wrote around noon on Kontakt 24.
The crew told passengers about the broken window
Mr. Bartosz, who was also a passenger on the Enter Air flight, reported in an interview with tvn24.pl that at the beginning there was no indication that anything bad was happening to the plane.
– One of the stewardesses ran into the pilot’s cabin in a panic and only after leaving, she began to nervously inform us that we were landing, but not in Poland. Only when we started to approach the landing, the stewardess said that the glass in the cockpit was broken – says Mr. Bartosz.
From one of the Internet users we received a photo showing the interior of the pilot’s cabin after landing.
Enter Air: the flight crew identified a fault
According to Flightradar24.com, the plane suddenly veered off course over the Aegean Sea near Athens. Around 10 a.m. Polish time, two hours after departure, the machine began to reduce altitude.
Kontakt 24 journalists asked the airline’s representatives about the matter. In Enter Air’s response, we read that “the crew of the ENT4236 plane flying from Marsa Alam to Katowice identified a fault during the flight and, in accordance with procedures, decided to land at an airport other than the destination airport.”
“The machine was redirected to Athens, where passengers are waiting, under the care of airport services, for the second plane, which will take off on their way back to Poland in the afternoon. The plane is expected in Katowice in the evening,” the statement added.
