In the city of Shebekino, in the Belgorod region of Russia, on the border with Ukraine, many buildings were shelled. Five people were injured, Reuters reported, citing the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov.
Gladkov said on the Telegram channel that “tonight was tense and Shebekino was shelled for about an hour.” The official reported that the missiles were fired from the Grad launcher. As a result of the shelling, a private building was set on fire, as well as the roof of one of the administrative buildings. In another building, shell fragments damaged the façade and broke windows.
“We have reports of numerous damage to windows and balconies in private buildings and apartment buildings, there are houses where bullets pierced the walls” – informed Gładkow.
The governor of the Belgorod region also announced that five people, including a policeman, were injured as a result of the shelling.
The authorities of the region decided to evacuate children from the shelled regions. On Wednesday, 300 children were sent to Voronezh, reminded the portal of the independent television Nastoyashcheye Vreemia.
The Ukrainian side did not comment on Thursday’s events in the Belgorod region.
Fighting on the border
Independent Russian media, citing reports appearing on Telegram channels, report that on Thursday on the border with Ukraine fighting broke out in the Belgorod region. Sources report that “the attack is repelled by about 20 Russian border guards and up to 20 conscripts from the Russian armed forces.”
According to the Baza channel, “a sabotage group attacked the Shebekino border crossing on the Russian-Ukrainian border with tanks and is being held back by border guards and soldiers of the Russian Defense Ministry.”
