Former head of Ukraine’s foreign intelligence service, General Mykola Malomuzh, stated that Russian forces have changed the tactics of missile attacks. – The Russians decided that old-type cruise missiles were not effective, so they started using Iskander ballistic missiles on a larger scale, Małomuż said.
The general spoke out after another Russian attack on Kiev, carried out on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday using ballistic missiles that are difficult to detect. Fragments of shot down rockets fell on three districts located on the left bank of the Dnieper. More than 50 people were injured.
“Old missiles are not very effective
Appearing on Ukrainian television, Mykola Malomuzh stated that the latest Russian attack was “unusual.”
– The enemy understood that old missiles such as Kh-101 or Kh-555 are not very effective and are easily neutralized by our missile defense forces. In the case of such missiles, we usually detected the fact of their launch after 25-30 minutes, and then we could easily calculate the missile’s flight path and then destroy it. Therefore, the Russians focused on greater effectiveness and creating a surprise effect – argued the military officer, quoted by the UNIAN agency.
Russian forces began to use ground-based missile sites and strategic bombers more often, which are more difficult to detect by Ukrainian systems. Moreover, unlike old-type cruise missiles, ballistic missiles fly towards the target for only 10-12 minutes, Małomuż noted.
All the rockets were shot down
During the night attack on Kyiv Russia used Iskander short-range ballistic missiles as well as S-400 missile launchers, informed the general staff of the Ukrainian army.
According to the Kiev authorities, the target of the attack was infrastructure facilities.
Air defense forces destroyed all 10 missiles fired at the capital.
