August. An accident at a construction store. The elevator fell. One worker was killed and another injured

The tragic incident in the DIY store at Płocka Street took place on Wednesday afternoon. The activities were carried out by officers of the Poviat Police Headquarters in Sierpc, under the supervision of the prosecutor of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sierpc. The fire and rescue services were also at the scene.

We asked the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sierpc about the incident.

– As a result of the incident, one person died on the spot, the other injured person is hospitalized. In the course of activities undertaken immediately after the incident, the police secured documents relating to the technical condition of the lift which was the cause of the incident. Monitoring from the store was also secured and witnesses of the event were interviewed, the district prosecutor Arkadiusz Mielnikiewicz informed on Thursday morning in an interview with tvnwarszawa.pl.

As we have heard, the services are still conducting activities, and the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sierpc plans to launch an investigation into this tragic accident. “We are currently waiting for the documents necessary to initiate the investigation to be handed over. This will happen immediately. Today, procedural activities are planned with the participation of an expert in the field of forensic medicine, who will conduct an examination of the injured person – said Mielnikiewicz.

– The investigation will be initiated in the matter of unintentional manslaughter and violation of labor rights due to the fact that the employees of the market suffered from the accident – ​​added the prosecutor.

The incident was reported on Wednesday evening. They were described by the fire department.

– Firefighters sent to the scene determined that there was a failure of the freight elevator, probably during repair and renovation works. There were two men under the heavy lift platform, one of whom was conscious, while the other showed no signs of life, said brig. Waldemar Goczynski. He added that rescue measures were immediately taken, which consisted of using pneumatic cushions and raising the lift platform to a height enabling the use of spreading devices.

– As a result of the actions, it was possible to raise the elevator platform enough to extract the first victim. It was a 55-year-old man, conscious, in contact, who was handed over to the care of doctors. The elevator landing was then secured and the second man, who was unconscious, was evacuated. It was a 51-year-old man. The doctor present at the scene, unfortunately, pronounced him dead – emphasized brig. Goszczynski.

As he noted, the place of the incident was secured by firefighters, and the circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the police under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sierpc.
