Australia. Bus accident with wedding guests, killed and injured

Police from the Australian state of New South Wales reported a bus accident with wedding guests. Ten people died and 25 were injured in the incident near the town of Greta. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese sent his condolences to the families of the victims.

On the night between Sunday and Monday local time near the town of Greta, about 180 kilometers northwest of Sydney, a bus with wedding guests crashed.

As a result of this incident, 10 people died and 25 were injured. The injured were transported by helicopters and ambulances to the nearest hospitals.

Bus driver arrested

“The bus driver, a 58-year-old man who was not seriously injured in the accident, has been arrested and will be charged,” a police spokeswoman said. Earlier, the man was tested for the possible presence of alcohol or drugs in his blood. The spokeswoman did not say what the result of these tests was.

She also declined to comment on the specific allegations, but explained to reporters that “there is enough information for us to conclude that the drivers will be charged.”

Bus accident in Australia

The police did not provide any information about the cause of the accident. She only reported that a bus carrying about 50 people returning from a wedding reception in one of the nearby vineyards overturned.

The bus was carrying passengers who had previously attended a wedding at the Wandin Estate Winery and were heading to their accommodation in the Hunter Valley town of Singleton, a police spokeswoman said.

“It was a nice day and the wedding was like a fairy tale,” one of the wedding guests told the media. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese sent his condolences to the families of the victims. “That a day of joy ends with such a heartbreaking loss is truly cruel. Our thoughts are also with those who have been injured,” he tweeted.
