A shark attacked and killed a teenager near the popular Ethel Beach in Australia. The incident took place on Thursday morning. This is not the first tragic attack on swimmers and surfers in this part of the country.
A shark attacked and killed a teenage boy in the waters off Ethel Beach on the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia police said on Thursday. The attack occurred on Thursday around 1:30 p.m. local time.
Local media reported that the teenager was probably about 30-40 meters from the shore. The police initially received information about a seriously injured person, but when they arrived, the boy’s body was fished out of the waves. The officers are investigating the details of the incident.
– I’ve seen a lot of sharks here in 22 years, but this is the first fatal attack here – one resident of the nearby town of Marion Bay told ABC News.
Thursday’s shark attack is the first fatality on this popular surfing beach, but there have been at least two such incidents in South Australian waters this year, in May and November. According to local media, to protect swimmers, it will be necessary to train more volunteers to patrol beaches using drones.
