NAIROBI, Kenya — Not less than 47 persons are {dead} and 85 others injured following heavy flooding and landslides in northern Tanzania, authorities mentioned Monday.

The federal government has deployed the navy to assist rescue a whole bunch of individuals trapped by the flooding which has been described because the worst in years within the East African nation.

The flooding occurred close to Mount Hanang within the north. Homes, roads and bridges have been destroyed, complicating ongoing rescue efforts.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who’s attending the U.N. local weather summit in Dubai, mentioned she was slicing brief her journey to return to Tanzania because of the tragedy.

“I ship my honest condolences to the affected households and have directed all our safety forces to deploy to the world and assist these affected,” she mentioned in a video message.
