Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has raised his nation’s flag over the capital of Karabakh in a ceremony reaffirming Baku’s management of the disputed area.

The Azerbaijani chief delivered a speech and raised the flag over the town, which is named Khankendi by Azerbaijan and Stepanakert by Armenians, the presidential workplace mentioned Sunday.

The Karabakh area, which was beforehand referred to as Nagorno-Karabakh and is understood to Armenians as Artsakh, is internationally acknowledged as Azerbaijani territory, however turned a breakaway state underneath the management of ethnic Armenian forces in 1994 following a six-year battle.
