– It is simply pathetic that the government does not know Community law – said prof. Katarzyna Duczkowska-Małysz, from the Warsaw University of Technology, former deputy minister of agriculture in “Fakty po Faktach”. Janusz Piechociński commented on the actions of the Polish authorities. – It takes months of disregard for the phenomenon, omission, political play, because why did we send the Polish agriculture commissioner? That he would be close to Polish affairs, said former Prime Minister Janusz Piechociński.

The guests of “Fakty po Faktach” were prof. Katarzyna Duczkowska-Małysz, from the Warsaw University of Technology, former deputy minister of agriculture and Janusz Piechociński – former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy.

Promises of PiS for farmers

On Saturday during the Saturday convention PIS concerning agriculture in the village of Łyse near Ostrołęka, Law and Justice politicians presented many proposals for farmers. President Jaroslaw Kaczynski announced that a general purchase of grain, which remains in silos and warehouses, will be carried out, with an additional payment – the minimum price is at least PLN 1.4 thousand. zloty. The possibility of building silos without a permit was also announced.

Prof. When asked about these announcements, Duczkowska-Małysz indicated that the government was acting against the law.

– The issue of construction belongs to Poland, but intervention on the cereals market is also not arbitrary, because cereals are covered by the common organization of agricultural markets and there is a procedure for whom, what aid and under what conditions can be granted – she pointed out. – This is not to be circumvented, it is to be agreed with the European Commission, so in any case, whatever intention comes to mind, the intervention must be agreed with the Commission, but here the assumptions of this intervention are already wrong. (…) It is not to promise in political mode, to satisfy anyone’s needs, but to solve the problem. You will never be able to pay PLN 1,400 – added the professor. She also noted that the EU has proposed some solutions, but farmers are not satisfied with them, because they believe that it is not enough.

Ban on the import of Ukrainian grain

On Saturday evening, the regulation of the Minister of Development and Technology on the ban on imports from Ukraine agricultural products. The regulation introduces a ban on imports until June 30 this year. certain products originating in or imported from the territory of Ukraine to the territory of Poland – e.g. cereals, sugar, fruits and vegetables.

– These are probably unfounded promises, because Poland, as a member of the European Union, must agree on all decisions, including those regarding assistance, and so far nothing is happening around it – said prof. Duczkowska-Małysz.

– It takes months of disregard for the phenomenon, omission, political play, because why did we send the Polish agriculture commissioner? For him to be close to Polish affairs – former Prime Minister Janusz Piechociński commented on the actions of the Polish authorities. The guest of “Fakty po Faktach” reminded that Janusz Wojciechowski, the Commissioner for Agriculture “in February warned against introducing such a solution as blocking grain imports from Ukraine”.

– In the middle of last year, in an interview, Jarosław Kaczyński himself said for one of the PiS newspapers that this grain is not a threat – noted Piechociński.

He cited differences in the approach of Poland and Slovakia to the topic. – Slovakia has indicated specific transports to which it has sanitary reservations and which it is stopping for this reason – he said. – What are the services for? This is an omission, Piechociński said.

The government does not know EU law

– Logistical problems are one thing, but we, as a member state, had no right to close the border unilaterally. It is simply pathetic that the government does not know the Community law when we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of membership next year – pointed out prof. Katarzyna Duczkowska-Małysz speaking about the problem.

– What happened in the last year will affect the production of Polish agriculture in the next 5-10 years – said former Prime Minister Piechociński, saying that he agrees with farmers in this respect.

Prof. Duczkowska-Małysz also pointed out that “by misdirecting agricultural policy with our own hands, we will blow Polish farms from the market.”

Ukrainian grain and inflation

The professor notes that the issue of grain from Ukraine did not come up at all in the parliamentary agriculture committee. In turn, according to the former prime minister, “you can say that we are letting in this cereal to reduce the rate of inflation growth”. He pointed out that we are one of the 3 countries around the world where, with the world grain prices falling, food prices jumped again by over 20% year on year.

Prof. Duczkowska-Małysz agreed with the former prime minister and noted that “the share of food expenditure is increasing and will reach an average of about 30 percent in household budgets. This means that in poorer families it is 50 percent or more. so-called necessary expenses related to housing, it’s just an overwhelming part of Polish families” will have a serious problem.
