Barbara Lityńska is dead. The actress and poet was 50 years old

At the age of 50, Barbara Lityńska – actress, author of poems, daughter of Jan Lityński, a politician who died tragically last year, died. Theater 21 informed about her death via social media. Teatr Polski im. Adama Tarna in Vancouver said goodbye to the deceased, emphasizing that she played “many performances that were well received by the audience and critics”.

“Dear friends, with broken hearts, we share with you the saddest news that Our Dearest and Irreplaceable Actress, Poet and Revolutionary Barbara Lityńska passed away this morning after a long illness,” Teatr 21 said in a Facebook post on Monday, March 13, adding: “Barbara , Basia, Baśka – you will always be with us! On every stage in the world!”

Lityńska has been associated with Teatr 21 since 2012. She performed, among others in the performances “Revolution, which was not”, “Indianie”, “Falls. Episode 2”, as well as in the plays “Dworzec everywhere nowhere” and “Midsummer night’s dream” at the Extraordinary Theater of the Open Doors Association, “Święty Market” on the Lublin Stage and in “Alice in Wonderland” by the band Mazowiacy. In the series “Deep Water” she played the sister of the main character. She was the author of poems, including those contained in the volume “New Poems”.

“The heart breaks to hear that Barbara Lityńska, one of the most famous Polish actresses with Down syndrome, is dead,” wrote the Polish Theater in Warsaw on Facebook. Adam Tarn in Vancouver, emphasizing that on the stage of Teatr 21 she played “many performances that were well received by the audience and critics”.

Teatr 21 is a theater company whose actors are mainly people with Down syndrome and autism. The institution was established in 2005 during workshops in the “Dać Szansę” Social Special School Complex in Warsaw. Over the course of several years of activity, she created over a dozen performances staged all over Poland, performed at national and international festivals. Teatr 21 is also involved in educational and publishing activities. In 2021, he was awarded the Polityka Passport in the “Theatre” category.
