The American media hailed the success of both films as a phenomenon. For weeks, the biggest cinema-related pop culture phenomenon in recent years has been in existence and spreading on social media – a trend dubbed “Barbenheimer” (a combination of movie titles).

Hundreds of thousands of people in the US decided not to give up any of the films and bought tickets for both works long before the premiere.

“Thanks to the phenomenon of +Barbenheimer+ – hundreds of thousands of moviegoers decided to watch +Barbie+ and Christopher Nolan’s historical drama +Oppenheimer+. (…) It was not only the largest overall box office weekend since the pandemic, but also the fourth largest joint weekend of all time,” notes “Variety”.

The blockbuster Barbenheimer represents the first time a leading movie has grossed over $100 million in box office sales over a three-day weekend, and the second over $50 million.
