The Olsztyn district prosecutor’s office sent an indictment to the court against Paweł J. It was he who allegedly caused the accident near Barczewo (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship), in which two teenagers were killed. According to investigators, he drove the car without authorization, under the influence of alcohol and under the influence of amphetamines.
The indictment in the case of Paweł J. has been submitted to the District Court in Olsztyn, the date of the hearing has not yet been set, the press spokesman of the District Court in Olsztyn, Judge Olgierd Dąbrowski-Żegalski, informed on Monday.
The Olsztyn-Północ District Prosecutor’s Office accused 19-year-old Paweł J. of causing a road accident in April in which two people were killed. According to the investigators’ findings, he was driving a personal Skoda at that time, having about 0.9 per mille of alcohol in his blood and under the influence of an intoxicating agent in the form of amphetamines. In addition, he never had a driving license.
On the bend of the road
The tragic accident happened on April 12 around two in the morning on the district road near Barczewko. According to investigators, the 19-year-old Skoda driver pulled over to the side of the road and hit a concrete power pole with the rear part of the car. The driver and the 31-year-old passenger sitting next to him were injured and taken to hospital. The other two passengers: an 18-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, were killed on the spot.
According to the prosecutor’s findings, the driver did not adjust the speed to the prevailing conditions and he lost control of the vehicle. Paweł J. did not plead guilty to the charges against him.
The first, a few minutes after the accident, was a marked police car to arrive at the scene. The officers pulled the unconscious Skoda driver out of the car and gave him help before the arrival of the ambulance.
It wasn’t a chase
As reported by Deputy Commissioner Rafał Prokopczyk from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Olsztyn, shortly before the accident, the Skoda crossed the road with a police car that was driving in the opposite direction. Police officers noticed that the vehicle was traveling at excessive speed. The driver accelerated even more when he saw them. The officers turned after him and after driving two kilometers they came across a crashed car with dust still floating above it.
– It should be noted that there was no pursuit, said Prokopczyk. The teenagers who died were trapped in a crashed vehicle. To recover them, firefighters had to use hydraulic equipment. All those who travel by this car are residents of the Barczewo commune.
