Barry Newman, an American stage, film and television actor, has died at the age of 92. The greatest fame brought him the main role in the film “Vanishing Point”, in which he played the role of a former rally driver named Kowalski.

Actor Barry Newman died on May 11. The artist’s niece, Judith Newman, announced his death on Monday. “He was such a smart and funny man. Now it amuses me to think that he was known for those crazy driving movies… and in real life he was a very careful driver,” she wrote on Facebook. “He really lived like the humble, nice Jewish boy from Boston that he was. Rest in peace, Uncle Barry,” she concluded her post.

Viewers remembered him most from two productions: the road movie “Vanishing Point” from 1971 and the series “Petrocelli” shot in 1974-1976. In the former, he starred as a former rally driver named Kowalski, driving a Dodge Challenger at top speed to get from Denver to San Francisco in less than a day. In “Petrocelli”, Newman played the role of a lawyer, which was appreciated by critics and brought an Emmy and Golden Globe nomination.

In total, Barry Newman has appeared in over 30 films and almost 20 series, often alongside the biggest Hollywood stars. He limited his professional activity after he was diagnosed with vocal cord cancer in 2009.
