– Sanctions never solve matters, but sanctions are what may be the beginning, a catalyst for changes in the aggressor's economy – said in “Facts after Facts” on TVN24 MEP of the Civic Coalition Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz. He referred to the actions of Donald Trump and Russia, who “is barely panting against the size of the money he must pay for his citizens for participating in the war.”

Donald Trump stayed on Monday sworn in to the 47th President of the United States. Even before this happened, at the beginning of January this year he often emphasized that he could not ensure exclusion of military or economic activities as means attempting to take control of, among others on the Panama Canal and the territory of Greenland.

Piotr Marciniak, the host of the program, asked if in connection with such statements of Trump “Moscow and Beijing can be considered authorized to Ukraine and Taiwan.” – Unfortunately, a bit. This uncertainty and destruction of the existing order have become a fact. It was a crawling process, let's say openly, Russia It does not bear the consequences of the most drastic violation of the sovereignty of another country since the Second World War in Europe – replied MEP.

In Sienkiewicz's opinion, “Donald Trump pursues the symbols of uncertainty and threats, but at the same time he also pursues the negotiations with Moscow regarding the peace agreement (with Ukraine – ed.)”

Sienkiewicz: Russia is barely panting

Sienkiewicz referred to the fact that the European market is greater than the American in terms of population and consumer. – You can hear louder at various Brussels meetings that this is a threat – what is happening, but it is also a chance for us to redefine the concept of a common Europe at all – he said.

He was also asked about the effectiveness of sanctions imposed on Russia and about its economic and social state. – Sanctions never solve cases, but sanctions are what can be the beginning, a catalyst for changes in the aggressor's economy – replied Sienkiewicz.

As one example, he stated that “Russia is barely starting to panting in the face of the size of the money that it must pay for its citizens for participating in the war.” – In my opinion, the Americans perfectly sensed it, hence this initiative of President Trump: “Well, we will now lower the price of oil,” he noted.

In Sienkiewicz's opinion, this threat worked on Putin. – It is no accident that literally a few days later Putin said he was absolutely ready immediately (…) for conversations about atomic disarmament – noted the boss Of the Ministry of Interior and Administration.

– Russia will come out of this war devastated for a very long time, but with a guarantee that Ukraine will never enter NATO. This is probably impossible to do it anymore. Americans are already talking about it directly. Putin demands it. We are witnessing negotiations in which it looks like we will not take part. Poland will not sit at the table. – assessed Sienkiewicz. He added that “President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zełenski, although he will be part of the trial, is not the most important.”

“2025 will not be a year of peace, nor certainty nor balance in the world”

The MEP was also asked about Trump's actions towards China and the possibility of establishing an alliance with Putin against them. – He doesn't want a war with China. He wants to intimidate China, he wants to deprive them of financing (…). This is a power that has global ambitions and will do everything to limit them there – he replied. He pointed out that “Europe with China has a very similar problem.”

Sienkiewicz also answered the question of whether 2025 will be a year of increasing security or whether it would be reduced. – 2025 will not be a year of peace, nor certainty nor balance in the world. On the contrary, that's why it's crucial that we don't hesitate to do what we consider appropriate in Poland. Larger reinforcements, expenditure on borders and defense of borders – he mentioned.

He also referred to incidents in the Baltic Sea, including down the presence of shadow fleet ships and “accidental transmission lines”. – The reaction on the Baltic Sea in this matter when it comes to Europe is even exemplary. At the time when we have already gained absolute certainty that we are dealing with a hybrid war in the Baltic, forces that are already in the sea were already operating, they are already on duty – said Sienkiewicz.

– This is a very clear signal that such things will not escape dry – he noted.
