A 26-year-old man who caused a collision in Barycz (Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship) and fled the scene is facing up to five years in prison. The man was arrested after a police chase. He drove the car into the river. The uniforms reported that he had more than two times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The incident happened on Saturday (June 3) in the morning. According to sergeant Krzysztof Bernat, press officer of the Poviat Police Headquarters in Końskie, traffic police officers tested the sobriety of drivers in Barycz.

– The driver of the Citroen was apparently concerned about the sight of the police car, to avoid the sobriety test, he began to perform a reversing maneuver, as a result of which he collided with the Audi driven by a 64-year-old woman – reports Bernat. He added that the perpetrator of the collision fled the scene.

The police officers gave chase to the man. – After a few kilometers of forest roads near the village of Komaszyce, they stopped the driver who ended his ride in the river. A breathalyzer test showed more than two times the legal limit for alcohol in his system, police said.

The 26-year-old was detained for sobering up. He faces up to five years in prison.
