The ceremonial opening of the American missile defense base took place in Redzikowo. Szymon Hołownia announced his run in the presidential elections. In turn, Mark Rutte paid his first visit to Poland as NATO Secretary General. Here are five things to know on Thursday, November 14.
1. The base in Redzikowo is open
On Wednesday in Redzików near Słupsk in the province. The ceremonial opening of the American missile defense base took place in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, with the participation of, among others, president Andrzej DudaMinister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and representatives of the authorities USA and Secretary General of NATO Mark Rutte.
The base is part of not only the American, but also the European anti-missile shield.
2. Hołownia announced his run in the presidential elections
Szymon Hołownia, Speaker of the Sejm and chairman of Poland 2050, announced his run in the presidential elections during a meeting with voters in Jędrzejów.
– I decided that I want to run for office, humbly apply for you to let me be the president of the Republic of Poland. I want to be an independent presidential candidate and an independent president, said Hołownia.
3. Head of NATO in Warsaw
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is in Poland on his first visit. At the afternoon conference he appeared with Donald Tusk. Poland makes a “significant contribution” to the life of the Alliance, the Dutchman emphasized. Later he met with President Andrzej Duda. – I am glad that the Secretary General is in favor of everyone in NATO deciding to increase their defense spending – said the president.
On Wednesday, Rutte also held talks with the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski.

4. The president lost part of his finger
Photos from the Independence Day celebrations show that President Andrzej Duda is missing a piece of his finger. When asked about this issue, presidential minister Wojciech Kolarski said that Duda “injured his finger quite seriously while doing housework.”
– A small procedure was needed, but everything is fine now – assured Kolarski.
5. Trump reveals more cards
President-elect Donald Trump confirmed that Senator Marco Rubio will be the new US Secretary of State. The American media had previously written about this candidacy. He announced that his former rival would be a “friend to allies” and “will not give in to America's adversaries.”
In addition, Trump nominated former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence, the coordinator of all US intelligence services.
