The BBC has suspended a male presenter over allegations that he paid a teenager £35,000 over three years for sexually explicit photos. The station does not disclose who exactly it is about.

The case was first described by “The Sun” – on Friday evening on the portal, and on Saturday in the newspaper. As he revealed, it has its beginning in 2020, when the person whose presenter paid for the photos was 17 years old. On top of that, this person’s mother said, her child spent the money on cocaine, which ruined her life.

In response to speculations appearing on the Internet, several well-known presenters publicly stated that it was not about them. Following a meeting between BBC director general Tim Davie and culture, sport and media minister Lucy Frazier on Sunday, the station said it was taking the matter “extremely seriously”, was in contact with police and had suspended the presenter, whose name has still not been released.

“The BBC takes all allegations seriously and we have robust internal procedures to deal with such allegations proactively. This is a complex and rapidly evolving set of circumstances and the BBC is working as quickly as possible to establish the facts in order to properly inform appropriate follow-up It is important that these matters are handled fairly and carefully,” the station wrote in a statement released on Sunday afternoon.

“The BBC first became aware of the complaint in May. On Thursday, we were presented with new allegations of a different nature and, in addition to our own investigations, we have also contacted outside authorities as per our protocols. We can also confirm that the male worker has been suspended.” added.

This is the third major crisis at the BBC since the beginning of this year. In March, there was a high-profile dispute between the station and Gary Lineker, a former famous footballer and for years host of the flagship football show “Match of the Day”, over the requirement for presenters to maintain impartiality and political neutrality, which Lineker violated with his Twitter comments about refugees . In turn, in April, the head of the BBC Council, Richard Sharp, announced his resignation, which was the result of his involvement in helping to arrange a loan for the prime minister Boris Johnson shortly before the government recommended him for the post.
