“People started discussing what was going on. There was some information that he visited the hospital. Democratic forces and civil society on Belarus they are discussing different scenarios of what we should do if something were to happen,” she said.

Cichanouska said that the goal of the Belarusian opposition is to hold free elections in Belarus. – We are working on a joint plan of what to do when Lukashenko disappears. There will be a lot of chaos. We know that our goal in Belarus is to hold free elections. Should anything happen to him, we will need to act quickly and we urge our partners to be prepared for that moment.”

– We saw that he was quite sick, his voice was very weak. He only appeared for a few moments. Lukashenko is a dictator who wants to show that he controls everything, that he is immortal, that he is absolutely insensitive to anything, but the Belarusian people saw that Lukashenka and his times were coming to an end. We will use this moment to start the processes that will prepare our country for the change. We have been discussing how to act for many months, but now the society must be ready for what to do to act faster – said Cichanouska. – There are radical groups that propose different scenarios. We have to combine different scenarios, different methods of fighting – she added.

Cichanouska: Lukashenko is the most pro-Russian, pro-Soviet person in our country

The leader of the Belarusian opposition also referred to the Russian attitude towards this situation. – We understand that Russia will try to put some pro-Russian puppet to replace Lukashenko, but people will not listen to anyone who does not control everything. Lukashenko and his government built their own strength. Once it disappears, there will be chaos in all forces associated with the regime. Russia will try to influence the development of events. Only free elections will unite people, empower the next president. We do not deal with other scenarios that there will be some puppet from Russia, ”she said.

– Lukashenko is convenient for Russia. Through Lukashenko, the Kremlin controls Belarus. The presence of Russians is in all spheres of Belarusian life – in the army, in the economy, in the media. Lukashenko is the most pro-Russian, pro-Soviet person in our country. It is convenient for them to maintain the status quo – that Lukashenko is here. He is responsible for all activities that are actually carried out by the Russians. He is the face of the regime. Thanks to him, Putin works freely in Belarus. (…) They would like to stay in Belarus. How? It’s a big question, she added.

In Belarus, as Cichanouska mentioned, the situation of political prisoners is deteriorating. – Prisoners are kept in non-contact mode. Prisoners have no rights. They cannot accept visitors. I don’t know anything about my husband since March 9. (…) Andrew Poczobut is among the prisoners. Our leader of the Polish community in Belarus, who refused to make any deals with Lukashenka and stayed in prison, had the opportunity to leave prison (…) but he was steadfast and kept his principles, he knew that he was not guilty of anything and did not understand why he had to conclude an agreement with Lukashenko. We are very proud of Andrzej Poczobut and other prisoners, she said.
