Alyaksandr Lukashenka signed a decree on Tuesday dismissing Alyaksandr Shekirenko of the deputy chief of the general staff of the Belarusian armed forces, the state agency Beltta reported. The dismissed general headed the main organizational and mobilization department.
Biełta announced in Tuesday’s dispatch that Major General Alyaksandr Szkirenka had been “placed at the disposal of the Minister of Defense”.
The dismissal of the general responsible for mobilization takes place during the recently completed mobilization exercises in the Belarusian army. Exercises bordering on Ukraine in the Gomel region, they started at the end of June. The Ministry of Defense in Minsk then informed that during these meetings, military commissariats would develop measures in the field of “announcing mobilization and showing conscripts in places from which they would be sent to military units.”
On Tuesday, the Belarusian ministry announced further military maneuvers in the Homel region, which are to last until July 14. Soldiers will practice, inter alia, “protection of territorial defense facilities”.
At the end of June, the general staff of the Ukrainian armed forces announced in a statement that “the military commissariats of the Brest and Gomel oblasts in Belarus they are exploring the possibility of a covert mobilization of the population. ”
Belarusian soldiers are not fighting against the Ukrainian army, but Belarus is participating in the Russian military invasion, making its territory available for missile attacks on Ukraine.
