Belarus would like to receive several Iskander missile systems squadrons from Russia, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said in an interview with the Russian monthly National Defense. As the Belarusian leader stated, the launchers would be deployed in the west and south of his country.

– I need several squadrons to the west, south. Let them stand. Their range is 500 kilometers. Our Polonaises [białoruski system rakietowy – przyp. red.] have a range of 300 kilometers. Now I am bothering your president, I need these 500 km long rocket launchers at home, said Lukashenka to the editor-in-chief of the Russian monthly “National Defense”, Igor Korotchenk.

The President of Belarus reminded that during the September exercises Zapad-2021 missile systems were used. “We can see where we have to hit the missile and use Tochka or Buka,” he added. The Tochka is a post-Soviet tactical surface-to-ground missile system transported on a car platform, the Buk is a system of surface-to-air guided missiles, developed in the USSR, intended to counter targets that are difficult to intercept, such as maneuvering airplanes or helicopters.

Lukashenka described the Belarusian army as “prepared” and “well-armed”. He also forecasted the course of possible military operations on the territory of Belarus. – We have a wooded and swampy area. And if there is a ground operation against us, we must be able to fight on the ground, he said.

Russia’s military support

In early September, Lukashenka told reporters that Russia intends to rearm Belarusperhaps even – as he stated – the Russian S-400 Triumph missile systems. – In the near future, they will be delivered to us from the Russian Federation, I will not say for what money and what exactly, dozens of planes, dozens of helicopters and the most important elements of air defense – the Belarusian leader said at the time.

Following this announcement, the Belarusian website Belrynok noted that “Russia will probably give the green light to the sale of the newest weapons in Belarus in exchange for closer and fuller integration”.

“According to the authors of the American magazine Military Watch, the upcoming domination of the Belarusian army in Eastern Europe should be ensured by the following weapons: MiG-35 fighters, Iskander operational and tactical missile systems, S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems, T-90M or Armata tanks, MiG combat helicopters. -35 or Ka-52. There is no doubt that the most powerful weapon from this list, capable of literally and figuratively “reaching” NATO countries neighboring Belarus, is Iskander “- assessed Bielrynok.
