The situation on the Polish-Belarusian border remains tense since 2021, when a sharp increase in the number of attempts to illegally cross the border from Belarus to Poland was recorded – since the beginning of 2023 border guards recorded more than 12,000 attempts to illegally cross the border from Belarus to Poland.

At 206 kilometers of the Polish-Belarusian border, the entire electronic barrier, i.e. a system of cameras and sensors, is already in operation. The electronic dam is a supplement to the 5.5 m high steel dam built in 2022 in response to mass attempts to cross the border.

In tasks related to guarding the border, the Border Guard is supported by other services – the police and the army, incl Territorial Defense Forces.
