The journalist of the TUT.by portal, liquidated by the Belarusian authorities, was released from detention after 14 months. As reported on Monday by Zerkalo.io, a portal created abroad by journalists from TUT.by, it is not known what the current status of a journalist is.
Belarusian journalist Alena Talkacheva was detained on May 18, 2021, and with her – 14 other employees of TUT.by, then the largest news portal on Belarus. Among others, the editor-in-chief, Maryna Zołatawa, was arrested. The TUT.by portal was then closed by the Belarusian authorities.
After 14 months, Tałkaczowa was released from detention, Zerkalo.io, a portal created abroad by journalists from TUT.by, reported. “It is not known so far whether the charges have been withdrawn” – the portal said.
It is known that Tałkaczowa and Zołatawa have heard allegations of “tax evasion”. Currently, as part of the so-called of the case of TUT, so that the former editor-in-chief and former director general Ludmila Czekina remain in custody.
The imprisoned TUT.by employees were considered political prisoners. Currently, 30 reporters and media workers are behind bars in Belarus.
