National Unity Day was established only three years ago – just after mass protests in the country and on the wave of deteriorating relations with Poland. That same year, the Belarusian regime launched an operation on the Polish border, which involved provoking a mass migration crisis. The Institute of National Remembrance called the new artificial holiday Alexander Lukashenko “The Celebration of the Unity of Two Totalitarianisms”, and solidarity with Poland was expressed, among others, by: Lithuania i USA.
International condemnation has not discouraged Lukashenko – quite the opposite. He celebrated the fourth official celebration of National Unity Day by presenting state decorations, among others, to Belarusian Olympians, people of culture, and education and healthcare workers.

During his speech Lukashenko said the holiday “commemorates the triumph of historical justice”. He described the aggression of the Soviet troops as the “liberation campaign of the Red Army” that united the Eastern and Western Belarusians.
– The people, divided for many years, became one nation. The history of a long journey has begun: During the Great Patriotic War – dramatic and heroic, after the Great Victory – peaceful and creative. Today, the Palace of Independence has gathered the true heirs of the tradition of those who did not give up in the face of the difficulties of the past century, who created, defended and raised our country, the dictator said.
In his prepared speech, Lukashenko stated that on September 17 “the eternal aspiration of Belarusians to live on their own land, as one family, in peace and harmony, has been fulfilled”.
Belarus is “celebrating”. They were supposed to get a postcard “from Poland”
Biełsat noticed that the pro-state agency BelTa reported that Belarus received “video greeting cards from over 35 countries” including from Poland. The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the other hand, remains silent about the alleged “wishes”. It is also not known who exactly sent them.
The celebrations of September 17 were also celebrated by Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Petrishenkowho took part… in a bike ride around Minsk. The trip ended at the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War and with the laying of flowers at the monument to the heroes of the Soviet army.
