Sofia Sapiega, the former partner of blogger Raman Pratasevich, has been added to the list of “persons involved in terrorist activities” by the KGB. The woman is serving a six-year prison sentence in Belarus.

Sapiega sentenced by a Belarusian court to prison

In May 2022, Sapiega was sentenced to six years in prison under two articles of the penal code – on incitement to hatred and illegal collection or dissemination of other people’s data.

Sapiega agreed to cooperate with investigators. Despite the arrest, she appeared in the state media, including admitting to running a channel in Telegram, which revealed the personal data of law enforcement officers, and suggesting that Pratasiewicz’s former associates from opposition circles could have been behind the forced landing of the Ryanair plane.

Sapiega also asked Alyaksandr Lukashenka for clemency, but received a negative answer.

The media indicated before the trial that six years in prison was the minimum sentence she could face. Belarusian media also suggested that she might be pardoned or extradited to Russia.
