With a “light heart”

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, who recently visited Belarus four years ago, stated that “in Belarus he always feels at home with his people”. – Usually, when you go to a head of state, various thoughts, how and what, swirl in your head. But here I was riding lightly. I knew that I was going to a loved one who took on a huge responsibility for safety, for the preservation of her people, for the preservation of the identity of her nation – argued the Moscow patriarch and all Russia.

As the Belarusian section of Radio Svoboda reported, during a meeting with Lukashenka, Cyril stated that “Belarus belongs to the East”. – Since the general political context in today’s Europe is turbulent, and Belarus is located on the border of Europe, between East and West (although it certainly belongs to the East), we have not omitted the importance and place of Belarus in modern European architecture – said the hierarch.

Attacks from the Belarusian territory

After Russia’s armed invasion of Ukraine, Russian planes took off from Belarusian territory and bombed Ukrainian cities. From the territory of Belarus, Russian soldiers also attacked the Ukrainian border regions.

Independent Belarusian portals pointed out that Cyril’s visit to Belarus was taking place during the Russian aggression against Ukraine. They also recalled that the Moscow patriarchy is losing faithful in Ukraine who – as a sign of protest against Cyril’s attitude in this matter – come under jurisdiction Of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
