The NatCon conference organized by European national-conservative circles in Brussels was interrupted by the police on Tuesday. The decision was made by the mayor of one of the city's districts due to “public safety”. According to information from the organizer, Mateusz Morawiecki is to be one of the speakers on Wednesday. He was asked about it by TVN24 reporter Maciej Sokołowski.

On Tuesday, Brussels police interrupted the NatCon conference organized by European national-conservative circles, at which, among others, the following speakers were scheduled to appear: Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki, candidate for president of France Eric Zemmour and Cardinal Gerhard Mueller.

Around 1 p.m., police appeared in front of the premises where the event had been going on for several hours, “checking what steps should be taken to stop it,” the Brussels Times reported. The conference closed “gradually,” meaning people were not forced to leave the building, but those who left were not allowed back.

The right-wing conference in Brussels was interrupted

The decision to interrupt the event was made by Emir Kir, mayor of the Saint-Josse-ten-Noode district, where the symposium was held. He argued that he did it to protect “public safety” and declared that “the extreme right is not welcome here.”

The police served the organizers with an order to stop the event when British politician Nigel Farage, the main perpetrator of Brexit, was speaking on stage.

– I knew I wouldn't be welcome in Brussels. One place withdrew from hosting the conference – okay. However, the withdrawal of two facilities is absolutely outrageous. You may know that the local mayor calls the place that finally welcomed us and sends the police to close the conference – said the former MEP. According to the politician, the local authorities also “called” the catering company, which ultimately did not provide the organizers with meals.

– They told the Tunisian owner (of the premises – ed.), who believes in freedom of speech, that if the conference takes place, he will go bankrupt. This is what we are facing,” Farage added.

Among the speakers: Mateusz Morawiecki

Mateusz Morawiecki – whose speech is scheduled for Wednesday – when asked by TVN24 reporter Maciej Sokołowski about his participation in the event, did not want to speak in front of the camera. He added that the conference is one of many events planned during his visit to Brussels, the situation is dynamic, and the NatCon meeting is not the most important of them.

In a statement, the organizers announced that they would seek to overturn the mayor's decision in court because “there are no disruptions to public order or grounds for closing the meeting.”

The National Conservatism Conference has been organized since 2019 by the Dutch Edmund Burke Foundation and is one of the most important events of this environment in the world. Previous editions were attended by, among others: current Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. This year, the co-organizers of the congress in Brussels include: the Hungarian Matthias Corvinus College and the Herzl Institute in Jerusalem.
