In northern Belgium, the driver was traveling at 388 km/h. He faces a fine of up to four thousand euros and the withdrawal of his driving license for five years. The police are investigating the case. However, it turns out that the driver can avoid punishment.

National police spokeswoman An Berger told the media that the record speeding happened on a motorway in the northern part of the country.

“The exact location of the crime cannot be released as the investigation continues,” the spokeswoman said.

The driver may not be fined

The daily “Het Nieuwsblad” draws attention to an interesting thread. Specialists cited by the newspaper indicate that if it turns out that the photo from the speed camera shows a vehicle that does not have the technical capabilities to reach such a speed, the case may be dismissed.

The newspaper also recalls an incident from 2021, when on the highway in Bitsingen in the north-east of the country, a speed camera showed that the driver was driving 306 km/h. The judiciary refrained from prosecuting, because the camera was approved only for 300 km/h.
