He left traces at the scene, which were entered into the police system and allowed him to be identified years later. Now he faces a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.

The incident occurred in mid-2007. Then, an unknown perpetrator broke into the slot machine and stole the cash inside. – The perpetrator’s loot was over PLN 2,000. Police officers from the criminal division worked at the scene of the incident. The officers conducted a thorough inspection, during which the technician secured fingerprints. The fingerprints were sent to the police database, reports Commissioner Barbara Salczyńska-Pyrchla from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Biała Podlaska.

They analyzed the traces again

The activities carried out did not lead to the identification of the burglar, and the case was discontinued. – However, the police do not forget about such proceedings, and if new evidence appears, the case is reopened. That’s how it was this time, the policewoman emphasizes.

He adds that the premise for resuming the proceedings was the analysis of traces secured at the scene of the incident and comparing them with fingerprints taken from suspects in the police system.

The system showed that the 40-year-old’s fingerprints were identical to those secured in 2007 at the scene of a burglary. – The man was very surprised when he was accused of committing an act from 16 years ago – said Commissioner Salczyńska-Pyrchla.

She added that the suspected man pleaded guilty. – He also explained that the reason for his behavior was the fact that he had previously lost a large amount of money there, which he decided to recover in this way – the police officer said.

The man now faces up to 10 years in prison.
