The police set off in pursuit of a 31-year-old passenger car driver who was driving without a seatbelt in one of the housing estates in Białystok and did not stop for inspection. The man was driving on the sidewalks and pedestrian crossings, and when the police blocked his way, he damaged their police car. When he was arrested, it turned out that he was drunk and did not have a license to drive.

On Wednesday (March 8), in the afternoon, police officers from the Białystok riot police noticed a ford in the Bacieczki estate, the driver of which was not wearing a seat belt.

“The man sitting behind the wheel ignored the police officers’ commands to stop and started to run, performing very dangerous maneuvers” – writes senior aspirant Katarzyna Molska-Zarzecka from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Białystok in a message.

He adds that the man forced other drivers to change direction, drove on pavements and pedestrian crossings, regardless of the people who were there.

“After a few hundred meters, the police cut off the driver’s path. As soon as they left to overpower him, he, wanting to keep running, started and hit the side of the police car” – we read in the message.

After a while, the 31-year-old was already in the hands of the police. A breathalyzer test showed that he had more than two times the legal limit of alcohol in his system. It also turned out that the Bialystoker never had a driving license.

Police are looking for witnesses to the incident

He was arrested and taken into police custody. For failing to stop for an inspection, he faces up to five years in prison, and for driving while intoxicated, up to two years in prison. The 31-year-old will also be charged with misdemeanors. Investigators determine the scope of responsibility for the exposure of bystanders to danger.
