Białystok City Police Headquarters informed that the fraud took place in several stages. First, the 86-year-old man from Białystok received a call from a woman posing as a bank employee who asked about his account and place of residence. Then she informed the senior that there were some irregularities in his account that needed to be explained and quickly ended the conversation. The man's wife stated that it must have been an attempted fraud, because bank has access to the data the woman asked about.

“The caller introduced himself as a police inspector from the provincial police headquarters in Białystok. He informed her that he was working on a group of fraudsters who were taking over bank accounts and that her account was at risk of being taken over. He also added that this group had been watching their apartment for a long time. The caller began to ask the senior citizen about moneywhich he has in his apartment,” the KMP statement added.
The fraudster ordered the husband of the 81-year-old woman to leave his phone at home, go to the bank and block the accounts. At the same time, the caller informed the elderly woman that a criminal had entered her building using gas and a picklock, he intends to break into her apartments“He said he had to pack all the money and valuables as soon as possible and then throw them over the balcony,” the Białystok police reported.

During her husband's absence, the frightened senior citizen believed the words of the calling man and packed 105 thousand zlotys, 9 thousand eurojewelry, and a gold coin in a shopping bag, which she threw over the balcony. The package with valuables was supposed to be collected by a “plain-clothes policewoman.” After the whole incident, the couple realized that they had fallen victim to fraudsters and notified the police in Białystok.
