On Saturday, October 9, the second equality march will pass through the streets of Białystok. During the first one, in July 2019, there were riots. On Sunday, in the churches of the Archdiocese of Białystok, the appeal of the Archbishop of Białystok, Archbishop Józef Guzdek was read out. The clergyman stated that although it is the duty of Christians to “defend fundamental values, it is unacceptable to use any kind of verbal or physical violence for this purpose.”
The day of July 20, 2019 will remain in the memory of Białystok residents for a long time. On that day, the Equality March passed through the streets of the city. It was not without incidents. The march was accompanied by several counter-demonstrations, clashes and police interventions. Firecrackers, eggs or bottles were thrown at the participants and offensive words were shouted out.
This year, a second march is planned for Saturday (October 9). On Sunday (October 3), in the churches of the Archdiocese of Białystok, an appeal of the Archbishop of Białystok, Józef Guzdek, addressed to the faithful, was read out.
The Metropolitan reminded that the Church cannot change the sacraments
“I recall with full force the fundamental truth read by human reason in different cultures and traditions that marriage is a union between a man and a woman. people of the same sex. He stressed that “the Church has no authority to change the sacraments. They are in the form in which Christ instituted them” (09/15/2021) “- wrote the metropolitan.
He added that although “the increasingly louder expectations of some people and communities demanding the recognition of same-sex relationships or abortion on request” are worrying, the foundation is respect for the human dignity of all. Also those who – as Archbishop stated Guzdek – they have different values and live differently than we do.
Archbishop: Jesus avoided confrontation
“This respect, however, does not mean passivity in the face of undermining what is dear and close to the heart of every disciple of Christ. Our duty is to defend the basic values, but it is unacceptable to use any verbal or physical violence for this purpose” – emphasizes the priest.
According to him, “in a situation of conflict and anthropological dispute, let us imitate the behavior of Jesus who, when faced with rejection of his teachings, aggression, and even an attempt to kill him, repeatedly moved away, moved away to desert places, avoiding confrontation”.
– Peter, who wanted to defend Him, admonished: “Put your sword back into the scabbard, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword” (Mt 26:52) – added the Archbishop. Guzdek.
