Road inspectors stopped a truck of the Ukrainian carrier on the S8 road towards Białystok, marked with stickers placed during the transport of explosives. Their attention was drawn to a distortion visible on one side of the trailer.
On Thursday (October 7) in the morning, on the S8 road towards Białystok, the road inspection stopped a truck driver who, according to the stickers on the trailer, was transporting explosives.
– The inspectors’ attention was drawn to visible deformations of the trailer, indicating the movement of the cargo, which in turn affects the stability – says Jarosław Lesiuk from the Provincial Road Transport Inspectorate in Białystok.
The driver wanted to drive over a hundred kilometers
It turned out that there were boxes with fireworks inside the trailer, which – due to the fact that they were not attached properly – moved to one side while driving.
– The driver said that he was counting on driving over a hundred kilometers to the Polish border. After removing the customs security, he planned to reload the fireworks – says Lesiuk.
The carrier has to take into account the consequences
The fire brigade and an officer of the National Revenue Administration who witnessed the removal of customs security were called to the scene.
– The transported fireworks were clearly not properly secured during transport and the continuation of the journey posed a real threat to other road users – emphasizes our interlocutor.
The truck has been secured until it is properly repacked, while the carrier has been subject to a financial penalty procedure.
