The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate issued a warning on Friday regarding the detection of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in a batch of pork and chicken burgers sold by the Biedronka chain. Eating contaminated food can lead to a disease called listeriosis.

It concerns the product Pork and chicken hamburger, 250 g, sold under the brand name Denmark Express, number 227/V and expiry date 21/06/2023.

The manufacturer is Konspol Holding Sp. z o. o. from Nowy Sącz. The hamburgers were produced for Jeronimo Martins Polska SA

GIS reported that the manufacturer – Konspol Holding Sp. z o. o. – undertook full cooperation with the Veterinary Inspection authorities in order to identify the source of the threat and withdraw the product from the market. He also informed the distributor about the found non-conformity of the product and the need for immediate withdrawal.

The inspectorate also informed that Jeronimo Martins Polska SA withdrew the product from sale – from distribution centers and Biedronka stores to which it was delivered.

Official food inspection bodies are investigating the case and are monitoring the recall process.

In the message from Konspol Holding posted on the Biedronka website, it was written that people who purchased the product are asked to throw it away or return it to the nearest store where the product was purchased. “The product should not be consumed,” it added.

It also stated that “all consumers who return the product with its packaging (necessary to identify the product’s expiry date) will be reimbursed for the purchase price of the product.”

GIS alerts

On the website of the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate, warnings regarding food or products intended to come into contact with food are regularly published. These announcements – as the GIS emphasizes – are not used to stigmatize entrepreneurs, but to take immediate action: return products to the store or withdraw them from the assortment.

Thanks to cooperation with companies from the food industry, consumers can be quickly and effectively informed about the threat.
