The Oder level at the water gauge in Gozdowice (West Pomeranian Voivodeship) reached 565 centimeters on Sunday morning, i.e. 65 cm above the alarm level. According to data from Hydro IMWM, the water level in Bielinek rose to 641 cm, exceeding the alarm level by as much as 91 cm. On Friday, the voivode introduced a ban on using the waters of the Odra River, Lake Dąbie and the Szczecin Lagoon throughout the entire voivodeship. The Sanitary and Epidemiological Station informs that tap water is safe to drink.

The West Pomeranian Voivode, Adam Rudawski, announced that the wave was forecast to reach the capital of the region, reassuring the inhabitants of Szczecin.

– The wave is slowly passing in the south. In Chlewice, the water level has dropped by a few centimeters, so the wave is already passing there. In Gozdowice we expect a decrease in the maximum wave that passed in the evening, while in the following places: Gryfino, Widuchowa and Szczecin we expect even increases. I have very good news, the wave is still flattening and most likely in Szczecin the water will go below warning or alarm levels – said the West Pomeranian Voivode in an interview with TVN24.

According to data from Hydro IMWM, on Sunday, September 29 in the morning, the level of the Oder in Gozdowice in the Gryfino poviat exceeded the alarm level by 65 cm and amounts to 565 centimeters. In Bielinek, the water level is currently 641 cm, which means that the alarm level there has been exceeded by 91 centimeters. According to forecasts, the culmination of the flood wave that passes through Bielinek may reach a maximum of 650 cm.

The water level in Widuchowa is rising, yesterday at 22 was 612 cm, per hour. 8:00 on Sunday it was 629 cm, i.e. it increased by 27 cm. One centimeter is missing from the warning level, which is 630 cm.

According to information from the Provincial Crisis Management Center, in the province In the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, no major events related to the hydrological situation were recorded.

Flooding and seepage

– We have information that the embankment in Piasek has started to seep, there is a minor failure there, which was secured last night and the leak site was sealed. We will pump out the collecting water there, but there is no threat to people or farmsteads. We have flooded three houses in Stara Rudnica and Bielinek, everyone is taken care of there, no water entered the houses, no one was hurt – he added.

In the West Pomeranian Voivodeship there is a ban on driving on flood embankments, flights of unmanned aircraft over the Oder bed, navigation on the Oder and amateur fishing in the Oder and Portowe Lake.

Tap water is safe to drink

– Tap water is available, which is confirmed by sanitary inspection tests. It can be safely used for purposes such as drinking water, cooking dinner, and for watering animals. The West Pomeranian waterworks has been monitoring the situation on the Odra River for two weeks. Every 12 hours, employees check and verify whether everything is OK at water intakes and sewage treatment plants. Today, we supply water from deep well intakes, so here there is no risk of flooding by the Oder and there is no contact with the Oder – said Łukasz Szeląg, spokesman for the West Pomeranian Waterworks.

The company is also prepared for extreme situations. – In the event of flooding, we are ready to supply water to residents through water tankers – he added.

Prohibition on using water

The West Pomeranian Voivode informed on Sunday about updating the regulation introduced on Friday regarding the ban on using the Oder waters. The decision to introduce a ban is related to a direct threat to the life and health of humans and animals.

From Friday, the ban covered the waters of the Odra River, including the Eastern Odra and the Western Odra together with the connecting canals and the waters of Lake Dąbie and the Szczecin Lagoon within the borders of the state.

After updating the regulation, the ban covers the waters of the Odra River, including the Eastern and Western Odra, along with connecting canals on the section from the southern border of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship to the border between sea waters and inland waters.

They constitute: on row Płonia – a line running along the northern edge of the bridge at ul. Przestrzenna in Szczecin-Dąbie; per row Regalica – a line running along the northern edge of the Cłowy Bridge at ul. Gdańska in Szczecin; per row Parnica – a line running along the eastern edge of the Portowy Bridge at ul. Gdańska in Szczecin; per row Odra Zachodnia – a line running along the northern edge of the Trasa Zamkowa bridge in Szczecin.
